You can use hd copper cleaning gel to remove the tarnish. As the film gets thicker the color of the copper darkens slowly from orange red to brown black and eventually bluish green. Within days the shine will begin to fade. You may hear the greenish color of oxidized copper referred to as patina.

After the gel melts the tarnish scrub off then neutralize. We ship custom lengths of gutters up to 20 ft. After a month or two they will really start to develop streaking discoloration and browning. The overheating can be caused by excessive current in the wires or a lightning strike and it will usually be accompanied by melted or discolored insulation near wire connections.
